The master and the student sit down together to have tea. The master begins pouring tea into the student's cup, but he pours too much and overfills the cup. Tea is running over the edge. The student says to his master, "Master, how did you not realize that you overfilled the cup?" The Master replies to his student, "You need to empty your cup before I can teach you."
Sometimes we cannot learn something new until we unlearn what we already know. You could call this changing your perspective, changing the way you normally do things, or breaking bad habits. You are emptying your cup, de-focusing your mind. The business world is all about focus - focus or you won't succeed. But what if de-focusing is the place where brilliance and creativity are formed? What if unlearning is the key to filling and overflowing your cup? My husband is good at de-focusing his mind and he is a brilliant, creative thinker.
The point I am making in these thoughts is that we need to let go of the past, forgive past hurts, and become empty so that we can be filled anew.

Elan,
What an interesting approach to getting rid of parts of the past so that the future can be more hopeful. Thanks for thinking and writing.
